Moors Valley Boreholes & Harvesting - Update 27 March 2014:
One of the campaign's supporters
took photographs in Moors Valley/Ringwood Forest of the
borehole drilling & extensive tree harvesting which
took place in March 2014 (also see below).
The Forestry Commission
confirmed that the borehole drilling was being undertaken
on behalf of the landowner (Somerley Estate). Borehole
drilling by itself isn't necessarily a bad thing. The
evidence could demonstrate once and for all that the sand
& gravel is below the water table or that the minerals
are of insufficient quality, assuming of course that we
are privy to the results.
We were also able to assure
supporters that the extensive tree clearance is a part
of a wider Forestry Commission programme supporting longer
term restoration of heathland and encouraging indigenous
species and not preparation for quarrying/landfill.
